A great crew....
We are starting to feel like a ship's crew....we each add to the flavor of the room and everyone is learning to pitch in to keep our room shipshape! We have been focusing a lot on friendship, respecting others, and bullying. Be sure to ask your child the three steps to try if they run into a bully!!! In math we are talking about adding and subtracting stories and are learning a strategy for reading word problems and figuring out which operation to use. As readers we have learned to pick good fit books (be sure to ask your child the five finger rule). We are starting our strategies with thinking about connections to a story we are reading (to ourselves, the world or another book we have read). Our writing workshop has covered neat handwriting (upper and lower case letters), using spaces and we just started talking about using capital letters. We will continue to work on the foundation skills we will need to do any kind of writing and will start working on narratives soon. In science for this week we did some work to learn what kinds of directions scientists use (label, sketch, diagram, observe) with our fishbowl. We will start our exciting ant unit next week. I hope your children are having as much fun as I am as we start sailing through this year together. Thanks for sharing them with me!!!
