In the next two weeks we will focus on Thanksgiving and students will begin to learn about needs and wants as part of Social Studies( types of communities.) There are several opportunities coming up to discuss this topic with your child.
The All For Books Grassroot Givers Fundraiser which will come home today is one example of providing for those in need. We are a lucky community to have lots of books available to read but that is not the case even in neighboring communities. Please do not put book fair money into the same baggie as the donations.
The Slingerlands Turkey Shoot is a fun-filled time for all. Plan to come play and eat with our school community. (Thursday Nov. 21 K-2 time is 4-5:15)
American Education week is coming up along with our annual book fair. ON Thursday Nov. 21 you are invited in for math games (11:00-12:00), and lunch with your child. We will attend the book fair later that afternoon so if you want your child to purchase books please send in their money in an envelope or purse of some sort. Thanks.
Attached to the H.W. packet is information on the Six Flags Read to Succeed program. For any child who completes 6 additional hours of reading (not the HW time) over the next few months (by end of Feb) Six Flags gives them a free ticket to the park. I explained the program in class so the students are very excited about it.
Raffe Report for the week of 11/18:
Math: review of Units 1-4, interim assessment and start of Unit 5:Place Value to 100
Spelling/word work: eck, ell word patterns There, Their and They're
Reading: Fairy Tales (reader's theater), comparing/contrasting different versions of common fairy tales
Writing: finishing/publishing a small moment story, using a rubric to assess own writing and setting goals
Social Studies: Pilgrims, History of Thanksgiving, introduction to types of communities
Science: your child is bringing home their ant folder, please look at their work with them and celebrate all their learning
On Friday, we will have Third Grade buddies in the morning as the students will go to P.E. 10 mins. early. Mrs. Young will dismiss my class to the buses that day as I have an appt.
