We are getting so smart....

I am in the process of assessing your child in all areas to write their upcoming report cards. Next week they will have updates for their AIMS web data on fluency and on math facts and applications. Thanks for the very quick response signing up for your conference. I am looking forward to sharing how much they have grown since Sept. with each of you as well as goals for the rest of the year.
Be sure to ask your child about today's assembly to kick off our One Book One Community reading program. PLEASE ENJOY reading the book together and mark it for their reading HW.  In school we will do some follow up activities to further their interest as well.
Don't forget to send in the Read to Succeed forms as you complete them. They must be in right after February break in order to get credit.

The Raffe report for next week:
Reading: myths/Reader's theater
Writing: informational text
Math: Unit 6 test on Monday(addition strategies to use mental math, hundreds chart, adding to the next ten, adding tens, and ones and tens We did several review lessons and the students brought them home if you want to give them additional practice problems over the weekend. Don't forget they need to do their 10 mins. of Xtra math each day to boost their facts automaticity.
Starting today for fun Friday we will be doing different math than the rest of the week. We are starting with money so this week we will focus on the names/values of the coins, identifying them by size, color and front/back information. We will work just on counting pennies and nickels. Work with real money with your child at home to help build this important math skill base.
Science: Simple Machines, Forces/Friction
Spelling/word work: er word family/adding 's to show possession (not plurals)

This week has been wonderful....the students have all come back with best behavior and work attitude in place and we have really enjoyed ourselves! Thanks to them for all their effort and to you for the effort you put into parenting them at home! (I know from experience it can be the most frustrating but the most rewarding job ever!!!)
