Honoring our Presidents....and sharing our Friendship!

Be sure to ask your child about our Olympic visit to Sochi (math) and our Olympic thinking packets of fun activities to work on this next few weeks. You never know but perhaps one day one of these young athletes may be Olympians....they are already winners in my eyes!!

The Raffe report for next week:
Math:  regrouping to add double digit numbers ( we will move from using our tens/ones, to drawing them to solve and then to solving without the use of the tools), money (showing the same money value using different combinations of coins)
Reading/Writing: Individual biography work. Each child has two sources to read/take notes from. We will also gather data from Internet sources to add to our notes. They will then write an informational story about their person using the writer's workshop skills we have been working on.
Reading: we will work on comprehension/main idea for three passages about G. Washington, A. Lincoln and B. Obama and discuss the holiday President's Day.
Health: My Healthy heart (in PE they will begin the fundraiser called Jump Rope for Heart)
Spelling/word work: Unit 18: ir words/prefixes (word beginnings before base words)

We will celebrate our Friendships with a party on Friday afternoon. Students may bring in their Valentines in a marked bag before then if they want to. I will be providing my "sweet students" with some special Valentine treats for that event. Have a wonderful weekend!
