It has been a long, cold winter...and your students have been working so hard in school! They deserve this break and some great outdoor weather too!. Please just have them continue to practice their math facts and read during the time off.....there is NO HOMEWORK PACKET!!!!
Reminders: Thanks to all who sent in LEGO donations for the carnival basket!
Tomorrow is Tie Dye/Peace day and the last day to donate for the Slingerland's family who lost everything in their home fire! There is a bus drill tomorrow morning so all students should go to the buses at arrival time to practice even if they normally don't ride the bus!
Our school is promoting a LITTERLESS LUNCH on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we return to help students think about ways to reduce garbage!
We will be having an Earth Day presentation by Five Rivers on Thursday and will be doing some activities in class to become "Kids for the Earth".
They are still putting up student pet pictures and collecting needed pet supplies.
**** NEWS ALERT: We will have our end of the year learning presentation "Salute to the States" on Thursday, June 12 at 1:30 in our classroom. I will send home more information, but wanted those of you who need to put in for time off to have plenty of notice!!!!
THE WEEK WE RETURN:
Math: we will take our April facts test when we return. We will finish/review/take our test on the current unit on Greater numbers/Place value to 1,000. We are also near finishing up our time/data unit which we have been doing on Fridays.
Reading: students have selected their next "Mystery book club" book and will now read/do their roles as I wander and listen in. We are also reading comprehension passages/answering questions in complete sentences. Our reading will switch to some books on Soils/Earthworms to read in our content area next.
Writing: continuing work on persuasive writing. ASK your student about our OREO approach to this topic. (Open with your opinion - tell people what you want and shy), Reasons, Examples and Opinion statement to end and what you want the audience to do). The more stuffing in the cookie the more convincing it will be. We are working on book letters about our favorite characters, series etc.
Science: Soils and Earthworms - we got to observe our earthworms yesterday and have created a compost container to watch them at work. We are turning into soil scientists and doing a variety of experiments to test different kinds of soils.
Have a FUNtastic week off....my "To do" list is long, but I hope to enjoy some time outdoors too! When we return you will find that the rest of the year is very busy and goes by extremely quickly!!!
